Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the Workplace Charging Scheme grant?

Businesses, charities, and public sector organisations in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland with dedicated off-street parking. You must use an OZEV-authorised installer (we are). The grant covers up to £350 per socket for a maximum of 40 sockets across all your sites.

How much does workplace charging actually cost?

With the grant covering £350 per socket, your out-of-pocket cost depends on the complexity of your installation. A typical single charger installation might cost £800-£1,200 before the grant, meaning you pay £450-£850 after the £350 grant is applied. We provide detailed quotes upfront.

Do employees pay tax on workplace charging?

No. Electricity provided for charging at work is currently tax-exempt for employees. This is a significant benefit compared to petrol or diesel fuel, which creates a taxable benefit.

Can I apply for the grant myself?

Yes, but we handle the entire application on your behalf. You apply for a voucher via the government portal, then share the code with us. We install the chargers, claim the grant, and deduct it from your invoice. Much simpler than managing it yourself.

How long does installation take?

For straightforward sites, installation typically takes 1-2 days depending on the number of charge points. We coordinate access times to minimise disruption to your operations. More complex sites may take longer.

What happens if my power supply isn't sufficient?

We assess your electrical capacity during the site survey. If upgrades are needed, we can arrange this — and some costs may be covered by the separate EV Infrastructure Grant (up to £15,000 for infrastructure work).

Can visitors or customers use the chargers?

For businesses, chargers must be primarily for staff and fleet vehicles. However, local residents can use them outside office hours. Charities and public sector organisations can make chargers available to the public without restrictions.

Do I need planning permission?

Most workplace installations don't require planning permission, but it depends on your site. We check this during the site survey and handle any necessary applications if required.

What ongoing costs are there?

Electricity costs are the main ongoing expense — typically 8-14p per mile depending on your tariff. Maintenance is minimal with modern chargers. We offer optional maintenance packages for peace of mind.

Is the grant scheme ending soon?

The scheme has been extended to 31st March 2026. We recommend applying soon to secure your funding before any future changes. Vouchers must be claimed within 6 months of issue.
